Nearly 7% of adults employed full-time and 9% of those employed part-time currently use illegal drugs (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA]).

        More than 70% of substance abusers hold some type of employment(American Council of Drug Education).

        The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance (YRBS) Study by theCentersfor Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)surveyed high school students on several risk factors including drug and alcohol use. Results of the 2005 survey indicate that 38.4% of high school students reported using marijuana at some point in their lifetimes. Additional YRBS results indicate that 20.2% of students surveyed in 2005 reported current (within the past month) use of marijuana.

        TheCenters for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)also surveyed high school students throughout the United States for steroid use. Results of the 2005 survey indicate that 4.8% of all high school students reported using steroid pills/shots without a doctor's prescription at some point in their lifetime.

        Among students surveyed as part of the 2005 Monitoring the Future Study, 3.7% of eighth graders, 5.2% of tenth graders, and 8.0% of twelfth graders reported use of cocaine at some point in their lifetime(Office of National Drug Control Policy.)
